So, what do you think? I was ready for a new theme (yeah, I get bored easily), and this one jumped out at me for being spring-y and fun.

As luck would have it, I also had to get WordPress upgraded in order to use the theme.

So, last night I turned in a ticket around 11:00 or so, medium priority, asking that the upgrade be done. I had an email this morning that it was ready. Not bad, huh?

Many of you may know that I’m a programmer, so the irony that I pay for this type of work probably isn’t lost on you. I enjoy programming, but it isn’t something that I want to delve into at home. When I’m writing, I want technology to be as invisible as possible, which means someone else does my blog maintenance.

The host I use is Open Source Host. They’re inexpensive, and the service is fantastic. No, I don’t own stock or anything like that. These guys are just good at what they do. They do your installs and upgrades as a part of the hosting plan, and even better, they’ll install whatever open source platform you want (blog, wiki, cms, etc.) Look at Open Source CMS for a list of what they offer.

If you’re thinking of moving your blog to another host (you don’t have to change domain names), then give these guys a look.

Well, I’m making progress on the NaNo novel. As you can see in the chart below, I’m still painfully behind, but I am catching up. That’s something, isn’t it?

I thought it might be useful to talk about how I’ve approached this year’s NaNo, and how it’s working. For those of you already well underway, I know it’s too late to change course, but this may be useful for your general noveling pleasure.

Usually, I just write. I know it sounds a little nuts, but I enjoy the spontaneity. This year, however, the novel plot was too complex for that, so I’m outlining a few chapters ahead as I write. And, maybe more importantly, I know where I’m going to end up.

So, how’s it working?

Very well, actually. Better than I expected. I still have the spontaneity and flexibility to let the characters surprise me (isn’t that always fun?), but the outline is keeping things on track too. Perhaps I’ve stumbled upon a better way to novel? We’ll see…

As luck would have it, I’m home today from work, waiting for the electrician to show up. Nothing serious, but we’re having some work done. I’m enjoying playing hooky and hanging out with my mom, and of course, getting a little writing in as well. Can’t forget that.

I’d like to say thanks to my Mom and hubby, who’ve been putting up with yet another NaNo month. Cleaning, cooking and socializing have tapered off drastically (lets hope hygeine doesn’t follow suite), and they’ve weathered it wonderfully. Thanks, and I love you guys!

Even more, for always believing in me and my talents, especially when I didn’t.
