Ramble, ramble, ramble
Well, I’m making progress on the NaNo novel. As you can see in the chart below, I’m still painfully behind, but I am catching up. That’s something, isn’t it?
I thought it might be useful to talk about how I’ve approached this year’s NaNo, and how it’s working. For those of you already well underway, I know it’s too late to change course, but this may be useful for your general noveling pleasure.
Usually, I just write. I know it sounds a little nuts, but I enjoy the spontaneity. This year, however, the novel plot was too complex for that, so I’m outlining a few chapters ahead as I write. And, maybe more importantly, I know where I’m going to end up.
So, how’s it working?
Very well, actually. Better than I expected. I still have the spontaneity and flexibility to let the characters surprise me (isn’t that always fun?), but the outline is keeping things on track too. Perhaps I’ve stumbled upon a better way to novel? We’ll see…
As luck would have it, I’m home today from work, waiting for the electrician to show up. Nothing serious, but we’re having some work done. I’m enjoying playing hooky and hanging out with my mom, and of course, getting a little writing in as well. Can’t forget that.
I’d like to say thanks to my Mom and hubby, who’ve been putting up with yet another NaNo month. Cleaning, cooking and socializing have tapered off drastically (lets hope hygeine doesn’t follow suite), and they’ve weathered it wonderfully. Thanks, and I love you guys!
